Cannabis is a plant, and like any other plant, it needs 4 essential elements to grow:
Light - Water - Nutrients - Fresh air

Let's look at each of these factors in detail:
- LIGHT
Light is essential for photosynthesis, the main biological function of plants. Sunlight (or artificial light) provides the energy needed for plant growth, nutrient uptake and, most importantly, bud development. The light spectrum and duration of exposure must be adjusted during both the vegetative and flowering phases. A famous saying among cannabis growers is "more light = more buds".
- WATER
Water is the lifeblood of every living thing on planet Earth. In order to maintain a healthy and thriving plantation, you need to know how, when and how much to water your plants. The dosage and frequency depends on the variety of cannabis, the growing method and, of course, the size of the plants.
- FERTILIZER
Besides light and water, cannabis plants need different types of nutrients in hemp fertilizers. When you come to one of the Ethnic Growshops and look for all-in-one nutrient solutions, you will probably notice the three-letter combination N-P-K printed on the packaging. This stands for nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K), the three most important elements for the development of cannabis plants. Nutrients can be natural or synthetic.
- FRESH AIR
For the outdoor grower, fresh air is readily available. However, if you are growing indoors, it is essential to ensure adequate air circulation. Plants use the carbon dioxide in the air to produce nutrients and sugars. Oxygen is used for respiration (the conversion of nutrients into energy).
In addition to these 4 elements, there are a few other factors you need to take into account. Cannabis is native to tropical and subtropical environments. Therefore, it is genetically predisposed to live in certain conditions, such as high temperatures, 40-60% humidity and substrates with specific pH levels.
MAKE YOUR CHOICE AND SET UP YOUR GROW ROOM
Before you start growing, you need to make some choices. The first two basic questions you should ask yourself are:
- Do I want to grow indoors or outdoors?
- Which variety should I grow?
INDOORS OR OUTDOORS?
For true cannabis lovers, there is nothing more pleasing than seeing a lush cannabis plant kissed by the sun on a hot summer day.
If you're lucky enough to grow outdoors in a favourable climate, you won't have to worry too much. Plants can be grown either in the ground or in large pots. It is advisable to keep some nutrients on hand and to give extra water if necessary. But, in principle, nature will do the rest of the work.
Unfortunately, not everyone lives in ideal climate zones for cannabis plants. In addition, many cannot grow outdoors due to regulations. Therefore, specimens must be grown with the utmost discretion. Fortunately, marijuana is a plant that adapts easily to indoor spaces. But the indoor grower will have to work much harder to achieve optimal results.
A grow room must be set up in such a way as to create the perfect environment for cannabis plants. The room should maintain a constant optimal temperature, correct humidity, good air circulation and an efficient lighting system (with HID or LED lights). If you want to get rid of the smell of the buds (as most indoor growers do), you will need to install a charcoal filter in the vacuum system.
